CHARLOTTE, N.C. – There is one race left in the ten race 30th Annual Cook Out Summer Shootout Series at Charlotte Motor Speedway, and Jake Bollman is looking forward to chasing a third series win when Championship Night commences Tuesday, August 4.

Bollman, 16, is a California racer who has won twice already this summer at Charlotte, driving his Donnie St. Ours prepared No. 71.  This past week, race nine began with Bollman’s throttle pedal coming apart when he went out for qualifying, necessitating a pit stop.

He was able to return to the track before qualifying was over and ran the second fastest time in the session, but because he had pitted he was forced to start at the back of the field for the 25-lap feature.

“I didn’t realize at the time that it happened that there was still a piece of the pedal at the top that I could use that would still let me get full throttle,” Bollman explained.  “When I pitted, my team noticed that, so I went right back out, and they gave me two laps.  We ran second fast, but I guess they were just giving me the laps so I could check the car out because they told me after that I had to start in the back.”

Once the feature started, Bollman sliced his way through the 17-car starting field quickly and efficiently, until he got inside the top five.  With less than 10 laps left, heavy contact from behind sent his No.71 out of control and off the track.  The caution waved and both cars were put to the back for the restart.

Bollman began charging his way back through the field again and worked his way back to 8th place before the laps ran out and the checkered flag was waved.

“I just got wrecked,” he said dejectedly afterward.  “The driver told me he was trying to move me. He moved me. We had a fast car, and we should have finished at least second or third.  That finish probably ended our championship hopes, so now we’ll show up next Tuesday just focusing on winning the last race.”
